Nov 14 Auction Item Preview: An excellent original oil on canvas from the early 19th C after the central figure of Mary from Francesco Francia’s altarpiece in Pinacoteca Nazionale Bologna. The last picture included in this sale shows the original 15th C painting that features St Jerome, St John the Baptist, and the archangel Gabriel. Mary is receiving the news of her upcoming conception of Jesus. This painting is an incredibly deailed work, very faithful to the original. The sharpness of the image, and the time period when this was painted, makes one think of the German Nazarene painters.
